Our Company History 1986 - 2009Optogenics was started by the Cotran Family on September 22, 1986. In 1988, significant investments were made in Optogenics. The laboratory was moved to a new state of the art facility. This new lab had new equipment and a new computer system with the latest lab processing software that included in-house job tracking. Due to these improvements, Optogenics was able to produce 400 Rx jobs per day. In 1990, Optogenics started marketing on a nationwide basis and focused on Progressive lens sales. This Marketing led to an increase in business. Optogenics then started producing 700 Rx Jobs per day. In 1995, Optogenics became the distributor of Carl Zeiss Lenses for New York State. Optogenics started marketing the Zeiss Gradal® progressive lenses and built a brand new Zeiss AR-Coating Laboratory in a building next door. This brought the number of Rx jobs per day to 900 In 1997, because of the success of Zeiss lenses and Zeiss AR-Coating Optogenics purchased a second Zeiss AR-Coating Machine; bumping Optogenics production to 1100 Rx Jobs per day. In 1999, Optogenics became a Varilux Comfort® distributor. Because of this new product line Optogenics started producing 1400 Rx Jobs per day, and soon added a Crizal coating center. Today in 2009, Optogenics has 94 employees. The founders have left, but Optogenics continues to specialize in very fast and reliable service.
